APRIL 17, 2023 | TORONTO, ON. – Ontario athletes on the Canadian national team won gold and bronze medals at the 41st International GeeBee Boxing Tournament in Helsinki, Finland.

The tournament, held on April 13-16, 2023, was organized by the Finnish Boxing Federation and welcomed over 140 athletes from across the world, including teams from Bahrain, Denmark, England, Germany, Lithuania, Netherlands, Scotland, Sweden, Ukraine, and the United States of America.

Ontario’s Jayden Trudell (Border City Boxing) won a gold medal in a thrilling, tactical bout against Jere Niemelainen (Finland) in the finals on Sunday. He also received the trophy for Best Fighter of the tournament, awarded to the athlete who shows the most heart and grit.

Umar Carcamo (King of the Ring) and Garinder Takhar (King of the Ring), who along with Jayden, recently joined the 2023-24 Canadian Elite National Team, gained invaluable international experience in hard-fought bouts as the competitive season heats up. In her first international tournament, Garinder captured the bronze medal in her bout against England’s Hannah Robinson. Umar received the bronze medal following his battle against Jamar Talley from the United States.

National Team veterans hailing from Ontario, Scarlett Delgado (Team Destiny) and Justin Parina, also had a successful tournament and earned bronze medals in their close split decision bouts against England’s Charley Davison and Germany’s Salah Ibrahim, respectively.
