Boxing Ontario welcomes anyone interested in being an official

To certify you must be:

  1. At least 16 years of age
  2. Relatively fit (it can be quite taxing running around the ring)
  3. Register as a member of Boxing Ontario, cost of registration is $95.00
  4. Submit an original and current Police Records Check with your application

BOXING ONTARIO OFFICIALS PATHWAY

 

 LEVEL 1 OFFICIAL REQUIREMENTS (Regional Level – Judge Only)

Certification is valid for 1 year

TO BECOME

TO MAINTAIN

Attend a Level 1 Officials Clinic* Have an up to date Police Records Check (PRC)

Level 1 Competency Test – Pass 80%

Regional Supervisor approves your request to be a Level 1 Official

Maintain regular contact with your mentor

Successfully complete 15 judging bouts with mentor official

[Optional] 15 training referee bouts (mentored sparring sessions)

Participate and learn the functions of time-keeper, judge at sanctioned events

Contact your Regional Supervisor for list of upcoming events to do a training (a sparring session, club show or tournament)

 

Actively participate in your Region’s events
Confirm with Regional Supervisor at which event you’ll do your referee/judge training Keep your certification current by attending a clinic or recertification BEFORE your certification expires.

*The cost of the Officials Clinic includes your membership with Boxing Ontario for the year. 

 

LEVEL 2 OFFICIAL REQUIREMENTS (Regional Level)

Certification is valid for 1 year

To Become To Maintain
Be registered as a Boxing Ontario Member Maintaining a current Boxing Ontario Membership
Actively participate in your region with satisfactory performance Actively participate in your region with satisfactory performance
Working as a Level 1 Official for a minimum of one year Must work at least one minor tournament per year, which must be notated in your Officials passbook
Be proficient as a time-keeper, judge and/or referee Keep your certification current by re-certifying at an Officials Clinic or R/J workshop

Successfully complete 50 bouts as a judge

Successfully complete 15 mentor sparring or exhibition bouts as a referee

Maintain regular contact with your mentor
Pass the Level 2 test at a club show or minor tournament with a minimum score of 80% or better  

 

LEVEL 3 OFFICIAL REQUIREMENTS (Provincial Level)

Certification is valid for 1 year

To Become To Maintain
Have been a registered member of Boxing Ontario for at least 2 years Maintaining a current Boxing Ontario Membership
Actively participate in your region with satisfactory performance Actively participate in your region with satisfactory performance
Work as a Level 2 Official for a minimum of 1 year Must work at least one minor or major tournament per year, which must be notated in your Officials passbook
Be proficient as time-keeper, judge and/or referee As a mentor, maintain regular contact with your mentee, providing feedback and guidance to ensure they are an effective R/J
Must have worked at a minor or major tournament in Ontario Keep your certification current by re-certifying at an Officials Clinic or R/J workshop
Have completed 50 bouts (total) as a judge and/or referee  
Pass the Level 3 test at a minor or major tournament (given by an AIBA Official) with a minimum score of 80% or better.  

 

LEVEL 4 OFFICIAL REQUIREMENTS (National Level)

Certification is valid for 1 year

To Become To Maintain
Have been a registered member of Boxing Ontario for at least 2 years Maintaining a current Boxing Canada Membership
Actively participate in your region with exemplary performance Actively participate in your region with exemplary performance
Work as a Level 3 Official for a minimum of 1 year Must work at least one minor or major tournament per year, which must be notated in your Officials passbook
Must have worked at a Provincial Championship in Ontario As a mentor, maintain regular contact with your mentee, providing feedback and guidance to ensure they are an effective R/J
Have completed 100 bouts (total) as a judge and/or referee Keep your certification current by re-certifying at an Officials Clinic or R/J workshop
Pass the Level 4 test at a minor or major tournament (given by an AIBA Official from outside Ontario) with a minimum score of 90%
