September 9, 2024 | Toronto, ON. – Over 265 boxers from 87 gyms across Ontario and Canada converged in London, Ontario, for the 2024 Boxing Ontario x Boomerz Boxing Novice Tournament held from August 23-25 at the BMO Centre.
Hosted by Boomerz Boxing and officially sanctioned by Boxing Ontario, this tournament aimed to further develop Ontario’s impressive and competitive Novice boxing talent and grow the sport of Olympic-style boxing. The event was a tremendous success, culminating in 170 thrilling bouts over three days, featuring four sessions in two rings.
The tournament showcased “Novice” athletes—boxers with 10 or fewer bouts—offering them the perfect platform to test their skills and challenge themselves against opponents of similar experience levels. The competitive matches highlighted the remarkable emerging talent in Ontario’s boxing scene. For some participants, competing in the Novice Tournament marked a significant milestone—graduation to the “Open” class (11+ bouts) and an opportunity to qualify for the 2024 Golden Gloves Provincial Championships.
On the final day of the tournament, Boomerz hosted Sunday sparring for female athletes. This initiative allowed participants to engage in multiple rounds of sparring with various opponents, honing their skills and adapting to different fighting styles. The session was supported by tournament officials, dedicated volunteers, and the athletes’ personal coaches.
Boxing Ontario extends heartfelt gratitude to the entire Boomerz Boxing team, Jouda Promotions, and the City of London for their generous hospitality. Thank you to all the officials, doctors, and medical personnel for ensuring a safely conducted tournament. The success of the 2024 Novice Tournament is also a testament to the hard work and dedication of the athletes, coaches, and volunteers involved.
