2008 Senior National Championships

 

Toronto, ON – Team Ontario dominated and racked up an astonishing 30 medals at the Canadian Senior Amateur Boxing Championships. From November 28 –December 2 the best of the best 19 and over male and female boxers from all over Canada came together in Richmond, BC.

Four female boxers defended their titles; Jacqui Park (Hamilton), Katie Dunn (Windsor), Mary Spencer (Windsor) and Amber Konikow (Sudbury). The championship also crowned 3 new female national champs; Jennifer McConnell (Windsor), Melinda Watpool (Ajax), and Aimee Willimot (Chatham).

The Ontario male team also performed well. Ibrahim Kamal won repeated his championship and was joined by 2 new male champions-Philip Butler (Hamilton) and Steve Franjic (Orangeville).

Boxing Canada also awarded these Ontario boxers with:

Female Athlete of the Year: Mary Spencer (Windsor Amateur Boxing Club)
Rookie of the Year: Mandy Bujold (Waterloo Regional Boxing Academy)
Male Athlete of the Year: Adam Trupish (Windsor Amateur Boxing Club)

Congratulations to all athletes. Ontario captured 10 Gold, 7 Silver and 13 Bronze. Next stop for our National Champions is Final Team Selection from January 24-27 in Windsor, ON.
