MARCH 14, 2024 | TORONTO, ON. – Boxing Ontario’s Youth & Junior Team completed their final training camp in advance of the 2024 Youth & Junior Canadian Championships in Calgary, AB from March 20-24, 2024.

The first camp was hosted at King of the Ring (KOTR) in Brampton on February 24-25, and the second camp was held at Kingsway Boxing Club (KBC) in Etobicoke on March 9-10, 2024.

The training camps were organized by the Youth Nationals Team Coaches Virgil Barrow (Kingsway Boxing Club), Julia DiMarcantonio (Napper’s Boxing Club), and Danial Khan (King of the Ring Boxing Club).

Day 1 of camp featured pad work, sparring, and conditioning drills. The team was joined by special guest Jennifer Huggins, international-level referee and judge, who reviewed the scoring system with the athletes. On Day 2, the Coaches planned several technical drills, executed light sparring, and concluded camp with pad and bag work.

“Both training camps were a huge success,” Team Coach Julia DiMarcantonio commented. “The second camp at Kingsway Boxing carried forward the amazing energy and enthusiasm that we saw earlier at King of the Ring. These were honestly two of the best camps I have ever attended. I am very proud of the hard work that these young athletes are putting in.”

“The two camps at KOTR and KBC showcased the talent our Ontario Juniors and Youth boxers have,” said Team Coach Virgil Barrow. “The energy and work ethic these young athletes demonstrated reflects the dedication by their coaches and home gyms from across Ontario.”

Thank you to Kingsway Boxing Club for hosting the team and to the Team Coaches for their exceptional work planning and executing camp. Special thanks to the athletes’ personal coaches, to Provincial Coach Ray Napper, and to all the coaches who volunteered their time at training camp for all their support.

The team will be departing for Calgary early next week in anticipation of the Draw which will be taking place on the evening of Tuesday, March 19, 2024.

“The Junior and Youth talent in Ontario is top notch; we have a very strong team. I am really looking forward to Calgary, and I think we are going to see some remarkable performances. Go, Team O!” said Coach Julia.

“Coach Julia, Coach Danial and I are pumped to guide these athletes to the Nationals and bring home some gold. Let’s go, Team Ontario!” say Coach Virgil.

Best of luck to Team Ontario!
