MARCH 4, 2024 | TORONTO, ON. – Boxing Ontario’s Junior & Youth Provincial Team embarked on their first of two full-team training camps in preparation for the 2024 Youth & Junior Canadian Championships in Calgary, AB from March 20-24, 2024.

The athletes impressed at Camp #1, which was hosted on February 24-25 at King of the Ring Boxing Club.

Conditioning and technical sparring was the focus of Day 1, and Day 2 emphasized sparring, and boxing drills that tested the athletes’ strength, stamina, speed, and reaction times.

The team modeled an exceptional level of focus and eagerness to excel, learn, and win, which impressed the Youth Nationals Team Coaches and Provincial Coach Ray Napper.

“Our first camp was really good,” commented Provincial Coach Ray Napper. “The hard work and competitive nature of the athletes at the camp was very impressive. Boxing Ontario has a very strong Youth and Junior team.”

Camp was organized by the Youth Nationals Team Coaches Danial Khan (King of the Ring Boxing Club), Julia DiMarcantonio (Napper’s Boxing Club), and Virgil Barrow (Kingsway Boxing Club) who were selected by Boxing Ontario’s Coaching Committee to support and accompany the team throughout training and competition.

The Youth and Junior Athletes who will be representing Ontario at the 2024 Youth & Junior Canadian Championships are:

Youth and Junior C athletes who won gold or silver at Ontario’s Golden Gloves Provincial Championships in October 2023 were eligible to advance to the Canadian Championships. Boxing Canada also opened “wildcard” spots for each provincial/territorial organization, and based on results at Provincials, regional tournaments, and club competitions, Boxing Ontario’s High-Performance Committee selected many deserving athletes to advance.

Thank you to King of the Ring Boxing Club for hosting the entire Youth & Junior team over the weekend. Special thanks to Team Coaches Virgil, Julia, and Danial, Provincial Coach Ray Napper, and the athletes’ personal coaches for their support at camp.

The next training camp will be hosted at Kingsway Boxing Club on March 9-10, 2024.
