The weekend of December 10-12 featured world class athleticism at the 2004 Provincial Senior and Junior Open Boxing Championships.  This tournament was the precursor to the National Championships in 2005 and offered provincial bragging rights to the winners.  The line-up of boxers in St. Catharines was extremely strong and resulted in many exciting and dramatic bouts.

Best Male Boxer for the tournament was awarded to Tony Luis of Champs Eastside Boxing in Cornwall.  Tony displayed great speed and power as he outlasted a packed division of great athletes.  He defeated both of his opponents by RSCOS (Referee Stop Contest – Outscored) which indicates a dominating performance.  Tony competed in the 57kg Junior Male Division, which was stacked with talent.

Best Female Boxer for the weekend was Katie Dunn of Border City Boxing in Windsor.  Katie also overwhelmed her opponents with RSC decisions to capture the 63kg Senior Female title and a trip to Montreal next month for the National Championships.

Best Bout of the weekend was awarded to Justin White of McGrory’s in Hamilton versus Frank White of River City in Sarnia.  This was the last bout of the entire weekend and the large crowd in attendance was not disappointed.  After exchanging a barrage of combinations in a closely matched contest, Justin White was granted the victory on a 36-33 final score.  Congratulations to both boxers and their coaches on such an outstanding performance.
