Owen Paquette

“My name is Owen Paquette. I am 15 years old and I have been boxing for almost 7 years. I am from Brantford, Ontario, and I currently train out of Top Glove Boxing Academy. Initially, I began boxing for conditioning training to better myself for another sport. Once I started to box, I loved it so much that I decided to switch my focus to boxing entirely. I could not get enough of it. I slowly left my other rep sports teams so I could dedicate my time and energy towards my boxing.

“I am inspired both by my father as well as my coach, Gord Apolloni, as they have shown me what is required to become a high-performance athlete, and I am motivated to follow in their footsteps. My dad played professional hockey in the Washington Capitals system and understands what is takes to achieve my goals and reach the highest level. My coach, Gord, has also competed and coached at the highest levels in boxing and is extremely knowledgeable and experienced. I am confident that he will help guide me in the right direction.

Ontario vs. Ireland Tournament

“My greatest accomplishment, thus far, has been my win at the Ontario vs. Ireland tournament because this was my first time competing internationally against someone from outside of North America. My future goals in boxing are to represent Canada and win a gold medal in the 2024 Olympics.”

The Quest for Gold program is designed to assist future Olympians to achieve their goals. The athletes nominated exemplify this drive. Through hard-work, training, and dedication to our sport, we are sure that they will make Ontario proud!
