Two episodes of NBC’s “The Contender” aired last night, and a few favourites were left on the outside looking in. First Sergio, “The Latin Snake” Mora was selected to box against Ishe “Sugar Shay” Smith. This was a battle of two of the contest’s best boxers and the bout did not disappoint. Sergio won in an unanimous decision, using the mental game to defeat the brash Smith.
In a thrilling second round show, Joey Gilbert sacrificed a brand new Toyota 4Runner and a chance to select the next bouts, by giving the skill challenge to Peter Manfredo at the finish line. For the short term it worked. Peter picked another beauty, the returning Ahmed “Baby Face” Kaddour versus the mexican tactician Alfonso Gomez. Alfonso dominated early and finished with some great combinations to get the judges nod and earn the victory.
Who will box next week? Two boxers are now in the final four (Mora & Gomez) and four boxers (Bonsante, Gilbert, Manfredo Jr, & Brinkley) and are now vying for the last two spots and the opportunity to compete in the final in Las Vegas.
