The Canadian Olympic Boxing team is currently in Busto Arsizio, Italy for the 1st World Qualification Tournament of the Paris 2024 Olympics Games.

Ontario is being represented by Team Canada athletes Mckenzie Wright (W50 kg – City Boxing Club), Justin Parina (M51 kg – Kombat Arts/National Training Centre), and Scarlett Delgado (W54 kg – Destiny Boxing).

Mckenzie, Justin, and Scarlett secured their spots to compete at the 1st World Qualifiers in Italy following their gold medal performances at Boxing Canada’s Olympic Trials which were held in December 2023 at the National Training Centre in Montreal, QC. However, their journeys to the Paris Olympic Games have been paved with years of hard work and dedication, including incredible moments at the recent Pan Am Games in Chile and Continental Qualifiers in Colombia.

Competition at the 1st World Qualifiers begins on Sunday, March 3, 2024 with finals concluding on Monday, March 11. Six hundred and thirty-two athletes (399 men and 233 women) representing 114 nations and teams will be competing for 49 coveted slots at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games:

  • 21 Olympic slots for women (4 for 50kg; 4 for 54kg; 2 for 57kg; 3 for 60kg; 4 for 66kg; 4 for 75kg)
  • 28 Olympic slots for men (4 for 51kg; 4 for 57kg; 4 for 63.5kg; 4 for 71kg; 4 for 80kg; 4 for 92kg; 4 for +92kg)

The 1st World Qualification Tournament is organized by the Italian Boxing Federation and falls under the authority of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) which will determine the allocation of the Olympic slots.

Team Canada departed for Italy on February 9 to take part in a pre-tournament training camp in Assisi, Italy alongside 25 other countries and is currently wrapping up final preparations before competition.

The athletes representing Canada at the 1st World Qualifiers are:

Women:

  • 50 kg – Mckenzie Wright (ON)
  • 54 kg – Scarlett Delgado (ON)
  • 57 kg – Marie Al-Ahmadieh (QC)
  • 60 kg – Terris Smith (BC)
  • 66 kg – Sara Kali (QC)

Men:

  • 51 kg – Justin Parina (ON)
  • 57 kg – Victor Tremblay (QC)
  • 71 kg – Junior Petanqui (QC)
  • 80 kg – Keven Beausejour (QC)
  • 92 kg – Bryan Colwell (BC)
  • 92+ kg – Alexis Barriere (QC)

Tammara Thibeault (75 kg) and Wyatt Sanford (63.5 kg) secured their spots at the Paris Olympic Games by winning gold at the 2023 Pan Am Games Santiago, Chile.

The official tournament draw will take place on March 2, 2024.
