The tournament, which started on Friday, is structured so that athletes will have to medal in order to participate in the 2011 Pan Am Games to be held in Guadalajara Mexico in October. There will be three qualification tournaments but all boxers are aiming to qualify this tournament.
For 3 x World Champion Spencer and 6 x National Champion Bujold they will be defending their Pan Am Titles. Wilcox will be chasing his first title.

Day 5 Results
Day 5 at the Pan Am Qualifier saw Steve HARVEY move into the medal round after he defeated his Haitian opponent. He will now face Luis Eunice PERO, the winner will move on to face either the Dominican or Equador in the final.
Jag lost a tough one when the referee stopped the bout for a minor nosebleed near the end of the second round. Unfortunately, Jag may have been ahead on points at the time of the stopage. Ironically, Brody BLAIR did not have the same referee for his bout. Brody walked right into the lion’s den when he faced a Venezuelan boxer and 2000 very loud fans. The noise was deafening. Brody bloodied his opponents nose in the second and the bout was halted several times. It did not matter. The bout went the distance and Brody lost on points.
Up today will be all the semi-finals. Mandy boxing Argentina’s Paola BENAVIDES in the last bout of the afternoon session. Both Mary SPENCER and Steve HARVEY will be boxing in the evening show against Argentina and Cuba.
The finals will start tommorrow at 6pm

Day 6 Results
One Athlete is in….One athlete is not…and one athlete is waiting….
It looks like Mandy will require to attend Equador the the 2nd Pan Am Qualifier next month as she fell short this afternoon, losing on points to Paola BENAVIDES of Argentina. Mandy fell behind 2-1 after the first round as she had difficulty adjusting to the very tall and southpaw opponent. The second round was very strong for Mandy and one sided however the judges had the score 4-4 after the second. Unfortunately some tough clinches resulted in a nose-bleed for Mandy and twice the bout was halted to deal with that issue. Again Mandy found herself down after the 3rd 8-7. Mandy let everything go in the last round and seemed to land the better punches, but judges scored the round 5-4 for Benavides.
Next up was Steve HARVEY of Quebec who faced PERO of Cuba. The Cuban came out aggressive and moved Steve back until a left hook caught the Cuban flush on the chin. From this point on the Cuban decided to move around and stay away from the exchanges. After the first round Steve was down 2-1. The second and third round was much more of the same as the Cuban was content to run around. The final result was 15-5. Although Steve lost, should the Cuban defeat Ecuador in the final tommorrow, Steve will advance to the Pan Ams.
The final bout in the Semi’s was Mary Spencer who faced Argentina. Mary controlled the bout from the beggining and won every round. The final score was 10-5. With this win Mary qualified for the Pan Ams. Mary will now face FEITOSA from Brasil in the Finals. FEITOSA is the reigning World Champion in the 81kgs class. This one will be a great one…..
Finals
6 days of boxing….124 athletes from 23 countries and it came down to the best boxing for Gold while one stood anxious in the stands.
First up was Mary Spencer who would face 81 kgs World Champ Roseli Feitosa from Brasil. Mary found herself behind early and played catch up the entire round. Despite a great final round, in the end Mary came up short losing 11-9. Mary earned the silver medal and a spot in Gualalaja.
Steve Harvey sat patiently waiting for the 91kg final which would pit Cuba vs Ecuador. A win for Cuba would advance Harvey to Guadalaja. Cuba did win and Harvey rec’d a bronze medal and a spot to the Pan Ams.
With the Bronze earned by Mandy Bujold, Canada finished in 7th place in points. Cuba captured the team award with lets just say a lot of golds…8 of them in the finals.
Pierre Chasson did an awesome job as an Official and was selected as the referee for all the “tough” final bouts…
Pat Fiacco also did an amazing job as the AIBA official overseeing the entire event.
Final shout out to all the coaches, Kevin Howard, Jimmy Boisvert, Charlie Stewart and all the boxers Mandy, Sandra, Mary, Benoit, Jesse, Jag, Brody, Steve and Joey….a great bunch of boxers who made this a great trip….you guys all deserve to qualify…and you guys all derserve to medal…great job this week …you represented Boxing Canada proud.
Thank you Ricka Cadilha for providing the results for Boxing Ontario!!! Congrats to all.
