Olympic Coach Honoured in Windsor

Congratulations to Coach Charlie Stewart for his recent award as “Most Influential and Admired Coach of the Year.”  The Windsor Amateur Boxing Club President received the award from BIZ X Magazine, which is a Windsor and Essex County publication for area businesses.

Charlie has coached since 1974 and since taken his athletes to countless World Championships and two Olympic Games, both times serving as National Team Coach.  This year in particular has been very rewarding for Stewart as two of his athletes (Adam Trupish and Andrew Kooner) boxed in the Olympic Games in Athens.  Moreover, his rising female star Mary Spencer captured the Gold Medal at the Tourneo Italia World Tournament in June and this past weekend won the Women’s World Tournament in Taiwan.  Judges for the Award, in its seventh year, described their winner as “a no-nonsense, hard-nosed trainer who has a kind heart and a keen eye for developing talent.”  They also noted that Coach Stewart has helped make the City of Windsor internationally recognized and is a key leader in community development.

Way to go Coach!
