March 20, 2025 | FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Today marks a monumental achievement for boxers, boxing enthusiasts, and everyone connected to the sport across the globe. The decision to restore boxing to the Olympic Games for Los Angeles 2028 represents a great day for the sport at every level and is a testament to the dedication and passion of the global boxing community.

This outcome has been made possible through a huge team effort from a host of individuals and organizations worldwide. The hard work and commitment of World Boxing, National Federations, boxers, coaches, officials, and boxing leaders have been instrumental in this success. Together, they have worked tirelessly to enable boxing to continue it’s Olympic legacy dating back to the 1920 Antwerp Olympics.

Acknowledging the IOC’s Support

World Boxing today thanked the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for the trust and faith they have placed in the sport by restoring boxing to the Olympic Games for Los Angeles 2028. This gesture is not just a victory for boxing but a recognition of the sport’s global appeal, integrity, and its deep-rooted tradition in the Olympic Movement.

A Privilege, Not a Right

World Boxing understands that being part of the Olympic Games is a privilege, not a right. We are committed to being a trustworthy and reliable partner to the IOC, upholding the values and principles of the Olympic Movement. We pledge to work with the IOC, National Federations, and all stakeholders to ensure boxing remains an integral part of the Olympic family for years to come.

Looking Ahead: A Commitment to a Bright Future

While we celebrate this achievement, we recognize that there is still much work to be done. Everyone at Boxing Canada and World Boxing is fully dedicated to continuing our efforts, working together, and doing everything within our power to deliver a brighter future for the boxers, the sport, and all those connected with it. The road ahead will be paved with continued collaboration, innovation, and a shared commitment to excellence.

Together, we will ensure that boxing not only thrives at the Olympic Games but remains a global beacon of strength, discipline, and unity.
