The 2009 Women’s Continental Championship of America took place at the Abel Jimenez Parra Colisium in Guayaquil, Ecuador, with 70 boxers from a record 16 countries competing at 13 different weight categories.
The event, held in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago last year, is the first for women in the American continent since the August IOC announcement of the inclusion of women’s boxing in the 2012 Olympic Games. Countries taking part are United States of America, Barbados, Canada, Argentina, Brazil, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Honduras, Costa Rica, Peru, Colombia, Venezuela, Panama, Trinidad and Tobago, Mexico and Ecuador. The action started On October 5 and continued with the finals on Thursday Ocotber 8. Two women from Ontario made it to the finals but falling to their opponets and claiming Silver . |
