Ontario Boxers Heading to Armenia for AIBA Youth World Championships.
Toronto, Ontario – Three members of Boxing Ontario clubs are headed to the AIBA Youth World Championships.
Evan Gillard (49kg) of Motor City Boxing Club, Michael Abbruscato (60kg) of Billy Irwin’s Boxing Club and Arthur Biyarslanov (64kg) of Cabbage Town Boxing Club will be part of a five member team competing for Canada in Yerevan Armenia from November 25th to December 8th, 2012.
They will be attending their first World Championship, where representatives from the five continents will be present, having the most outstanding boxers in 10 weigh categories.
Two months ago this team participated in the Branderburg Cup in Germany and brought home one silver by Evan Gillard and two bronze medals, one of them from Arthur Biyarslanov . This being their first international tournament, they boxed against the Asian and Europeans, whose style is very different than the team was accustomed to.
Although, Canada has a young and inexperienced team, they have the ability to surprise as noted by Daniel Trepanier, Boxing Canada’s High Performance Director.
