Boxing Ontario has announced the athletes who will be attending Boxing Canada’s Youth Talent ID/Selection Camp from May 18-21, 2023 at the National Training Center in Montreal, QC’s INS (Institut National du Sport).

This selection camp will enable Boxing Canada to identify which Youth athletes will participate in the AMBC Continental Championships being held in Cali, Columbia, from August 1-10, 2023.

The athletes representing Ontario are:

Joshua Hernandez (M 54-57 kg)
Ruqaya Nawaz (W 54-57 kg)
Simon Romero (M 54-57 kg)
Victoria Vergos (W 54-57 kg)
Aayan Khokhar (M 57-60 kg)
Kelsie Macphee (W 57-60 kg)
Alexander Moghadam (M 57-60 kg)
Owen Paquette (M 60-63.5 kg)
Jackson Cook (M 63.5-67 kg)
Parminder Pannu (M 71-75 kg)
Joshua Antwi (M 75-80 kg)
Ethan Lloyd (M 75-80 kg)

Athlete selection for the Continental Championships will be based upon technical skills, physical readiness, and sparring test matches. The evaluation process will be similar to the one conducted by the National Panel of Experts at the National Championships for Elite athletes in February 2023.

The camp will be executed by national team coaches, and each provincial association is allocated two coaches; one acting as an evaluator, and the other acting as a coach. Congratulations to Sebastian Cordova and Julia DiMarcantonio who will be joining the athletes at the INS along with Provincial Coach Ray Napper.

To prepare for the Selection Camp, Ontario Youth Team athletes took part in a training camp on May 6 at DC Boxing Academy in Guelph.
