Team Canada has arrived in Bangkok, Thailand for training camp in advance of the 2nd Boxing World Qualification Tournament for the Paris Olympic Games.

Ontario representation on Team Canada includes Mckenzie Wright (50 kg – City Boxing Club), Scarlett Delgado (54 kg – Destiny Boxing), and Doni Foreman (92+ kg – Brampton Boxing) who will be looking to punch their tickets to the 2024 Paris Olympics with a top four finish at these Qualifiers.

Competition at the 2nd (and final) World Qualification Tournament will take place between May 24 and June 2, 2024. One additional day of competition was recently added to reflect the high participation numbers, with the number of athletes expected to exceed 630.

A total of 51 remaining Paris 2024 Olympic quota places will be the ultimate prize of this tournament across 13 Olympic boxing weight categories (6 for women and 7 for men) as follows:

  • 23 Olympic slots for women (4 for 50kg; 4 for 54kg; 4 for 57kg; 3 for 60kg; 4 for 66kg; 4 for 75kg)
  • 28 Olympic slots for men (4 for 51kg; 3 for 57kg; 5 for 63.5kg; 5 for 71kg; 3 for 80kg; 4 for 92kg; 4 for +92kg)

For this tournament, boxers will box to quota, meaning that boxers will stop competing once the Olympic slots have been earned.

Tammara Thibeault (75 kg) and Wyatt Sanford (63.5 kg) secured their spots for the Paris Olympic Games following their gold medal performances at the 2023 Pan Am Games Santiago, Chile.

Training camp is scheduled to take place between May 8-21, 2024, and will help athletes acclimatize, finalize strategy, and bond as a team.
