The AIBA Olympic Qualification process has been completed with all 286 vacancies filled following the completion of the 10th and final Olympic qualification tournament in Guatemala on April 30th.

The 10 Olympic qualifiers, which started with the AIBA World Championships Chicago 2007 in October last year, filled all but two of the vacancies with the Tripartite Commission – a selection of IOC, AIBA and BOCOG representatives – naming two athletes based on the principle of universal participation.

With 284 vacancies split between Europe (91), Asia (62), Africa (60), America (69) and Oceania (11), Russia is the only country to have a competitor in each of the 11 weight categories. Morocco, Cuba, China and Kazakhstan all qualified 10 boxers while USA, France and Australia have nine.

The two boxers selected by the Tripartite Commission were Simanga Shiba (Swaziland) and Rolande Moses (Grenada) {Rolande Moses is also a resident and former member of Boxing Ontario but will be competing for his birthplace of Grenada, West Indies-we also wish him luck!}.

Each Olympic qualified boxer requires the approval of AIBA and the relative NOC, therefore changes may occur prior to the final deadline of July 23, however all athletes are now in preparation mode for the Beijing Olympic Games where the competition runs from August 9-24.
