Boxing Ontario would like to congratulate Tom Hennessey on being named the President of Boxing Canada following the first Board of Directors meeting after the 2025 Boxing Canada AGM on December 6.
Tom began his boxing career in 1972 as an athlete, competing nationally on 25 provincial teams before becoming a coach and official in 1982. In 1995, Tom founded Bluewater Boxing Club in Sarnia, ON, which has since hosted numerous club competitions, provincial and national championships, and international dual meets.
Throughout his career, Tom has mentored many provincial, national, and international champions and has coached at several international tournaments with the Canadian national team.
Tom has previously served on the Boxing Ontario Board of Directors with well over 30 years of service in total. His roles have included President, Past-President, Director of Finance, and Director at Large.
Tom has always been determined and passionate about growing the sport of boxing in our province, and we know he will continue to make an extraordinary impact on the sport of Olympic-style boxing at the national and international levels.
The Boxing Canada Board of Directors determines the roles of President and Vice President yearly by direct vote.
Previous Director at Large Angela Sanford has been named Boxing Canada Vice President, and Ryan O’Shea, who is stepping down as President, will stay on the board as Director at Large until his term concludes in 2028.
Boxing Ontario would like to sincerely thank Ryan O’Shea for his years of leadership and dedicated service. Ryan has served as Boxing Canada’s President since 2023 and will be focusing on representing Canada in his roles as Vice President of both World Boxing and the Pan Am Confederation.
