JANUARY 22, 2026| TORONTO, ON. – Canada’s largest and longest-running Olympic-style boxing tournament, The Brampton Cup, is set to return for its 43rd edition from February 5-8, 2026 at the Save Max Sports Centre in Brampton, ON.

Hosted by Bramalea Boxing Club and organized by its president, Kathy Sjouwerman, this highly anticipated event sanctioned by Boxing Ontario brings together hundreds of amateur athletes from Ontario, across Canada, and around the world.

The Brampton Cup has garnered such immense popularity that the tournament’s athlete registration cap of 750 athletes was reached within hours after opening. This unprecedented response underscores the event’s significance and the passionate community surrounding it.

Originally known as the Roddy MacDonald Tournament, Bramalea Boxing Club took over the event in 1983 under the leadership of Peter Sjouwerman and rebranded it as The Brampton Cup. The tournament underwent significant expansion in 2016, featuring three boxing rings, six sessions, and an impressive four-day schedule. Since, then, the Brampton Cup has reached new heights with the introduction of four boxing rings last year, making it the largest Olympic-style boxing tournament in Canada.

The Brampton Cup is renowned as a showcase of thrilling competition; however, it also serves as a vital platform for the next generation of boxing talents. Competitors of all ages and skill levels will gain invaluable tournament experience, with the opportunity to engage in multiple bouts with diverse opponents over the course of four exciting days.

“As a developmental tournament, a lot of boxers had their start at the Brampton Cup. Some went on to represent Canada in the Olympics or turned professional. Some legendary Brampton Cup alumni are Lennox Lewis, Dewith Frazer, Chris Johnson, Troy Ross, and Egerton Marcus. Even this generation’s new professional boxers have boxed in this tournament such as Josh Frazer, Jake Daoust, Melinda Watpool, Lucas Bahdi, Bonnie Hunter, Moe Zawadi, Sarah Bailey, John Michael Bianco, and Carolyn Redmond to name a few,” says Bramalea Boxing.

In addition to the highly-anticipated competition, the Brampton Cup will also be hosting sparring opportunities for Initiation/Funbox athletes on Saturday, February 7, and female athletes on Sunday, February 8. This new Saturday session will give Funbox athletes a chance to enhance their skills with supervised sparring in a controlled environment. Coaches and parents are welcome to attend for free.

Sunday sparring for female athletes is an annual fixture of the tournament that welcomes athletes of all ages, categories, and skill levels from across Ontario and Canada. These sessions provide an opportunity for athletes to spar in numerous rounds and challenge themselves with different opponents and styles.

Boxing Ontario expresses heartfelt gratitude to Bramalea Boxing Club and its president, Kathy Sjouwerman, the dedicated Bramalea Boxing volunteers, and the City of Brampton, whose commitment ensures the success of this monumental event year after year.

Brampton Cup spectator tickets and weekend passes will be available for purchase at the door of the Save Max Sports Centre on competition days. Additionally, the 2026 Brampton Cup can be booked in advance on the Brampton Cup tournament page.
