Boxing Ontario chronicles the adventures of Adam Trupish and his teammates as they prepare for Athens and fulfill a lifelong dream – to box in the Olympic Games.

Volume 2: Training Preparation (Written by Adam Trupish)

Hello boxing fans.  I would like to send regards for the great response from people and friends through the province and country wishing Coach Stewart, Andrew Kooner and myself the best of luck.  Training has been progressing appropriately.  I feel my body and mind will peak just in time for the games.  My workouts such as; sprints, heavy bag work, and focus pads, have been transformed to implement the explosive movement and attacks that I will concentrate on in the games.  In the gym Coach Stewart has adjusted the workouts to prepare for all the different styles I will encounter; short punchers, tall movers, and southpaws, because in tournaments you must be ready for anyone, any style, any time.  Great amateur boxers can adjust to fight these opponents.  Video taping my technical sparring, bag work, and focus pads gives me feedback so I can view any weaknesses that I can improve on.

In my off time during the last week, I have been playing tennis with my wife Autum.  It’s fun, gets my heart rate up, and improves my hand eye co-ordination. I got sized up over the internet for our olympic gear.  Roots is making sure we look good on the podium.  My weight has been good but, I have gained to 70 kg – medication I have been prescribed makes me retain water.  Not to worry though it’s just an infection and the meds will be finished by the time you read this.  Also just putting the finishing touches on the thank-you cards for the people of Rodney for throwing a benefit for Andrew and I.  Got word from Andy sunday morning, he and Coach Grant were returning from a Toronto Club show stoppage. That’s great – Andy and I will be ready as planned.

So take care, workout hard, but more importantly smart.  I’ll talk to you next week.  Feel free to contact me [email protected]
