A team from Boxing Ontario is currently in Montreal, QC from September 12-22, 2024 for a National Training & Assessment Camp hosted by Boxing Canada at Boxe Montreal’s Complexe sportif Claude-Robillard.

Boxing Canada’s main goals of the training camp are to bring the nation’s top athletes to train under Boxing Canada’s national coaching staff; begin the athlete identification process for the LA28 and Brisbane32 Olympics; and continue to expose Provincial and HP Personal Coaches to Boxing Canada’s National Training Centre.

Boxing Canada directly invited targeted athletes from the national and provincial teams to the Training & Assessment Camp based on past competitive performances and previous camp evaluations. Boxing Ontario also invited athlete applications to fill a limited number of quota spots as selected by Boxing Ontario’s High-Performance Committee. The Ontario athletes attending the selection camp are:

50kg – Mckenzie Wright – (City Boxing Club)
50kg – Justin Parina – (Kombat Arts/National Training Centre)

All attending athletes will be assessed and ranked against Boxing Canada’s revised Winning Style (WS) model, a crucial tool in Boxing Canada’s assessment process. In addition, all athletes in attendance in the U23 category will be assessed for possible entry into the “Emerging” athlete category within the national High-Performance Program; a category designed to identify and develop emerging talent.

Following the athlete and coach application process in June, Boxing Ontario’s Coaching Committee selected coaches Crista Aguinaldo (Oakville Boxing Academy) and Cristian Carcamo (The Boxing Lab) to accompany and support Team Ontario throughout the Training & Assessment Camp, continue their exposure to the National Training Centre environment, and attend designated coach education sessions.

The Team Coaches organized a “pre-camp” for the U23 athletes at Oakville Boxing Academy from August 31 – September 1 to assist in their preparations for the upcoming national camp.

“The pre-camp was a great team-building experience for the athletes and coaches. It was a jam-packed weekend full of training (beep test, counter movement vertical jump, Wingate test, drop jump, isometric squat), a fun icebreaker, and sparring,” said Team Coach Cris Carcamo.

Thank you to all athletes and coaches who participated in the pre-camp—and to Oakville Boxing Academy for hosting— which helped Team Ontario prepare for the exciting opportunity ahead.

Boxing Ontario would like to wish Team Ontario great success at the National Training & Assessment Camp.
