REPLACE THE RINGS PROJECT

Shawn O’Sullivan, our1984 Canadian Olympic Silver Medalist had his residence in Belleville, Ont. broken into in 2008. Stolen were his 1984 Olympic Athlete’s Ring and his 1981 & 1984 World Championship Rings. An extensive Police Investigation & Reward Money offered by local Amateur Boxing supporters failed to turn up any positive results.

Through the Canadian Olympic Association, I have been able to order a replacement ring, an 18kt Yellow Gold Ring through Birkes Jewellers Canada. The official manufacturer for Canadian Olympic Rings @ $1250.00 + HST $162.50 = $1412.50 . To be shipped this month (AUG). Ordered early as the price of Gold rises every week.

I am working with the Federal Government (Honours & Awards) to see if it is possible to re-issue his 1981 World Championship Ring presented to him by “PM” Jean Chretian & his 1984 World Championship Ring presented by “PM” Brian Mulroney as Canada’s recognition of his accomplishments in Canada’s Amateur Boxing throughout the World.

Local Fund Raising will be starting soon to help with the costs of the Olympic Ring & a social evening/event, possibly an Amateur Boxing Show in Belleville, to present Shawn with a replacement Olympic Ring & maybe his World Championship Rings.

I am forwarding this letter to Boxing Ontario requesting that they pass this information along to all Boxing Ontario Clubs/Coaches/Officials/Competitors and on to Boxing Canada to distribute; to all of our Provincial/Territory Associations for their support. Not only to show support for Shawn but to show support to all of our Amateur Boxing Family when assistance is needed.
