Boxing Ontario is sad to report that long time coach Bill White passed away on the weekend.  Bill spent a great deal of his time at the Border City Boxing Club mentoring young athletes and being a role model for everyone.  He was a great inspiration to 3-Time World Champion Margaret Sidoroff-Canty.

Bill White, “Mr. Boxing,” has been involved in boxing in the Windsor area for 15 years. In 1987 he took what was left of the defunct Ren-Cen Boxing Club and took on Doug Bedard as Head Coach of the newly formed Border City Boxing Club. In 1999 he retired as President of The Border City Boxing Club.

Josh and Margaret Canty took over the Border City Gym five years ago and since then have had 24 Bill White Best Boxer Awards.  This award is presented to the Best Boxer at each of our club shows.  They will continue to honour our dear friend Bill at their future shows.

“Bill will be greatly missed,” said Boxing Ontario Vice President Floyd Porter.  “He did so much for the sport of boxing in Southwestern Ontario.  Bill would take a kid by the hand and use every penny in his pocket to buy him lunch if he could.”

Boxing Ontario sends its condolences to the White family and the Border City Boxing Club.  Bill was put to rest this week in Windsor.
