For Immediate Release:

Ontario Team Set to Dominate at National Female Boxing Trials.  Olympics in 2008?

Friday, April 30 through Sunday, May 2, 2004, the National Cadet Championships and Senior Female National Team Trials will be hosted in St. Catharines.  The best under-17’s in the country will battle for boxing supremacy, and the Ontario Senior Women’s Team will fight to represent Canada on the World stage.

The Senior Female Team Selection will feature a strong Ontario Women’s Team that dominated the National Championships in January and collected the Best Female Team Award.  The team is led by World Champion Jennifer Ogg and multi-national champions Debbie Richards and Agnes Kittoe.  Those who make the team will represent Canada at the Tourneo Italia World Tournament in Rome from June 3-7, 2004 and will attend the first-ever Women’s Pan-American Tournament in Argentina in November.  In addition, there is a proposed Women’s World Championships next year and ringside rumours mention female boxing in Beijing in the 2008 Olympic Games.  Needless to say, a lot is at stake this weekend and the Ontarians are determined to be a large part of it.

Not to be outdone are the future stars of boxing who will compete in the National Cadet Championships this weekend.  Over 80 boxers ages 15-16 will battle to represent their country as National Champions.  In 2005 Boxing Canada is hoping to send these medalists to the World Cadet Championships – a first time ever for Canada.
