Canada takes 10 boxers, with 4 representing Ontario with coach Vinnie Ryan, to the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia.

Spirits run high as boxing got underway with Ontario’s Adam Trupish of Windsor Amateur who faced-off with Sri Lanka at the 69kg opens.

Going into the games, Adam Turpish had this to say;

“I’m really looking forward to getting the show started, we’ve been here a week and we’re all anticipating the competition.”

Adam captured his first win over Sri Lanka’s S.I. Kumara with an RSCOS in Round 3.  Adam started off strong in round one with a score ending 13-2.  Round 2 saw Adam still on top with a 4-2 decision with Round 3 ending in an RSCOS that ultimately gave Adam his win.  Adam moves on to the next round and is scheduled to box on Sun, March 19, his opponent yet to be determined.

The next bouts for our Ontario amateurs will occur tomorrow, Saturday March 18th between MCGrory’s Boxing Club’s, Isho Shiba at 54kg against Tanzania and Ibrahim Kamal of Cabbagetown Boxing Club, at 60kg Papua New Guinea.
