Seeding Criteria For Senior Boxers

A Maximum of 16 Athletes Are Eligible In Each Weight Category

1. if there are greater than 16 entries then the entries will be divided into 2 ‘heats’ as described below

a)Seed 1 – The boxer who places 1st at the John Degazio Memorial Tournament

b)Seed 2 – The boxer who places 2nd at the John Degazio Memorial Tournament

c)Seeds 3 – 16, if applicable, will be randomly chosen during the tournament draw.

Note that if a boxer earns Seed 1 or Seed 2 position and changes weight class for the provincial championships, then the Seed will be forfeited.

Draw Seeding Procedure:

In the event of:

·2 boxers only in the category:Seed 1 2. must be defeated twice.

·3 boxers in the category:Seed 1 receives a bye and 2. must be defeated twice.

·4 boxers in the category:Seed 1 picks his/her opponent from the remaining entrants. If Seed 1 should lose any bout other than the final, he/she is eliminated from the tournament.

Subsequently, should Seed 1 reach the final he/she 2. must be defeated twice.

·5 boxers in the category:Seed 1 gets the bye and picks his/her opponent from the remaining entrants. If Seed 1 should lose any bout other than the final, he/she is eliminated from the tournament.

Subsequently, should Seed 1 reach the final he/she 2. must be defeated twice.

Seed 2 will be placed on the opposite side of the bracket, if not chosen as the 1st opponent by Seed 1.

All remaining Seeds are then matched through an open draw.

·6 boxers in the category: Seed 1 gets the bye and picks his/her opponent from the remaining entrants.If Seed 1 should lose any bout other than the final, he/she is eliminated from the tournament.

Subsequently, should Seed 1 reach the final he/she 2. must be defeated twice.

Seed 2 will be placed on the opposite side of the bracket, if not chosen as the 1st opponent by Seed 1.

All remaining Seeds are then matched through an open draw.

·7 boxers in the category:Seed 1 gets the bye and picks his/her opponent from the remaining entrants. If Seed 1 should lose any bout other than the final, he/she is eliminated from the tournament.

Subsequently, should Seed 1 reach the final he/she 2. must be defeated twice.

·8 boxers in the category:Seed 1 gets the bye and picks his/her opponent from the remaining entrants. If Seed 1 should lose any bout other than the final, he/she is eliminated from the tournament.

·9-15 boxers in the category:Seed 1 gets the bye and picks his/her opponent from the remaining entrants. If Seed 1 should lose any bout other than the final, he/she is eliminated from the tournament.

Subsequently, should Seed 1 reach the final he/she 2. must be defeated twice.

Seed 2 will be placed on the opposite side of the bracket, if not chosen as the 1st opponent by Seed 1.

All remaining Seeds are then matched through an open draw

·16 boxers in the category:Seed 1 picks his/her opponent from the remaining entrants. If Seed 1 should lose any bout other than the final, he/she is eliminated from the tournament.

Subsequently, should Seed 1 reach the final he/she 2. must be defeated twice.

Seed 2 will be placed on the opposite side of the bracket, if not chosen as the 1st opponent by Seed 1.

All remaining Seeds are then matched through an open draw.

1.Greater Than 16 Entries Per Weight Category

If there are greater than 16 entries then the entries will be equally divided into 2 ‘heats.’

·Seed 1 will remain as Seed 1 in the ‘Red’ Heat

·Seed 2 will assume the role of Seed 1 in the ‘Blue’ Heat.

·Normal provisions, as described above, will apply in each heat.

·The winner in each heat will be awarded a gold medal, but not declared Ontario Champion.

·The gold medalist in each heat will compete against each other at an event to be chosen by the Boxing Ontario Technical Committee (i.e. Ontario Silver Gloves).Any associated expenses would be the responsibility of the competitors involved.

·A minimum of 3 weeks’ notice will be given to each competitor for the above-named match.If either opponent doesn’t participate, then the other will be declared the winner.

·If either heat winner was the original ‘Seed 1″ (i.e. placed 1st at the John Degazio Memorial Tournament), then that boxer will have to be defeated twice for the other boxer to be declared Ontario Champion & Provincial ‘A’ Team Member.

2. When Seed 1 Loses In Final

·When Seed 1 loses in the final, and it is the last day of the tournament, then the winner of the bout will be declared Ontario Champion.

·In order to determine who will be Provincial ‘A’ Team Member, the 2 competitors will compete against each other at an event to be chosen by the Boxing Ontario Technical Committee (i.e. Ontario Silver Gloves).Any associated expenses would be the responsibility of the competitors involved.

·A minimum of 3 weeks’ notice will be given to each competitor for the above-named match.If either opponent doesn’t participate, then the other will be declared the winner.

In the event of unforeseen or unusual circumstances, as determined by the VP Technical, then the Technical Committee shall have full discretion to resolve the matter as it sees fit.Each affected party will be given the opportunity to provide a statement outlining their interest & position on the issue.The Technical Committee will take these statements into consideration when deciding on the outcome of the situation.
