In just three weeks the 13th World Amateur Boxing Championships will be staged, and 3 Ontario champs will look to lead Team Canada to victory.  Adam Trupish of Windsor, Ibrahim Kamal of Toronto, and Jason Douglas of Kitchener all expect to perform well and bring home a medal.

For the first time ever, a Chinese city will host amateur boxing’s biggest stage; the city of Mianyang which is in the Sichuan province of southeast China.  Mianyang boasts a brand new Sports Gymnasium for the event and looks to set the precedent of boxing hospitality for the 2008 Olympic Games in China.  In just another 144 days, the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia will host the world’s best amateur boxers as well.

The 11 Olympic Weight categories (48 – 91+kg) will be represented at these championships.  Athletes depart November 11, with Preliminary bouts on November 14 and the finals on November 20.  Good luck to our Ontario & Team Canada men as they prepare for and compete in the World Championships!
