In 2005\, Chad moved to the United States where he eventually became the Coach Education Coordinator for USA Boxing\, and\, for the first time since 1984\, redesigned the coach education system. He is AIBA Star 2 certified and currently the Assistant Coach for the U.S. Marines boxing team at Camp Lejeune\, NC\, USA. \n  \n  \nSocrates Celestial (Coach Soc) has 25 years of coaching experience and has worked with both pro and amateur boxers successful at the local\, provincial\, national\, and international levels. He was the Provincial Coach of Ontario from 2015-2019 and is now a member of the High Performance Committee. His duties are to supervise the high performance team and to prepare athletes for national competition. Coach Soc works out of Mississauga via Kombat Arts Boxing Club. Justin Parina and John Michael Bianco are two of his personal athletes who are on the National Team and are vying for the Olympics in 2021. By designations\, he is a Level 3 NCCP National Coach and AIBA Two-Star Certified Boxing Coach. \n  \nCedric’s coaching career has allowed him to witness some of the greatest boxing talent in the world. He was the Chief Assistant Coach to Adam Trupish who placed 5th at the 2007 World Championships\, competed as the only Canadian in the 2008 Olympics as well as received several gold medals at the National Boxing Championship. He was also responsible for assisting Mary Spencer in her 2nd and 3rd World Championship matches in which she won gold. Cedric has also coached a number of athletes successful at the national level. In 2010\, he was selected by Boxing Ontario to be the Team Leader at the nationals\, and in 2011\, the Assistant Coach for the junior provincial team. In March 2015\, he was proud to receive his Advanced Coaching Diploma from the NCI-Ontario\, which is the highest level of education one can obtain in the National Coaching Certification Program. At the 2015 Pan Am Games in Toronto\, he was one of only three people holding the position of National Technical Official (NTO). SUMMARY:The Myth of Strength Training & Transfer of Strength-Complex Training
DESCRIPTION:“Weight training slows you down. Weight training ruins your cardio. Boxers don’t need to lift weights.” For 3 hours\, Dr. Adam Decker and Richard Sylvester (PhD candidate) will address common myths\, such as these\, about weight training for boxing. The phases of strength training will be explained using evidence-based research and practical tips and tricks for coaches will also be presented. \n Adam holds a PhD in Applied Health Science and has worked at all levels of sport from grassroots to Olympic and professional levels. He is an expert in performance science\, strength & conditioning\, and periodization. Adam currently works in performance science at Cirque du Soleil’s international headquarters in Montreal. \nRichard Sylvester is a strength and conditioning specialist with a very diverse career and life experience. He was born and raised in Winnipeg\, Manitoba where he spent 5 years working with athletes at the University of Manitoba and a large number of youth athletes. Afterwards\, Richard continued his diverse career by working in Toronto\, Ontario and Grande Prairie\, Alberta at the Grande Prairie Regional College and Alberta Sport Development Centre NW. Furthermore\, Richard recently spent 4 years living in New Zealand. During this time in New Zealand\, Richard worked as a youth physical development coach\, a speed and power coach for an International Rugby Academy as well as a Netball Academy. Additionally\, Richard is currently pursuing his PhD at The Auckland University of Technology (New Zealand)\, with a thesis titled Sprint Characteristics in Youth Female Athletes Across Maturation. His mission is to use his education and experience\, in order help athletes achieve success\, safety and enjoyment in sport. \n\n$30 for Boxing Ontario Members. Heather will also identify some of the updates and new thinking embedded in the new Long-Term Development in Sport and Physical Activity 3.0 resource.  \nAs a Long-term Development Advisor\, Heather has worked on Sport for Life projects related to meaningful competition\, physical literacy in aerial environments\, high performance planning\, athlete development matrices\, and activation planning. Heather is a Coach and a Master Coach Developer for both Gymnastics and Freestyle Skiing and has supported numerous sport organizations on athlete\, coach\, and sport development initiatives. Influenced by teacher training and her experience as an outdoor educator (B.Ed/B.Sc)\, Heather is passionate about leadership\, quality learning environments\, and personal development as they relate to excellence and wellness in both sport and life.
