Amber Konikow of Top Glove Boxing Club in Sudbury won Bronze in her 75kg weight class. Over a span of 8 days Amber fought hard against contenders from the USA and China to capture her bronze title.
Mary Spencer of Windsor Amateur Boxing Club in Windsor took first place in her 66kg weight class. This is Mary’s second Gold Medal at the World Championships. Mary beat out contenders from England, Russia, Korea, and the USA respectively.
This is the 5th edition of the Women’s World Championships since its inception in 2001. Since then Ontario women have brought home 3 Gold (Jen Ogg ’02, Mary Spencer ’05 & ’08), 7 Bronze (Jamie Behl, Jeannine Garside, Donna Mancuso ’01, Katie Dunn ’05 & ’06, Mary Spencer ’06, Amber Konikow ’08 )
