Friday, February 16 through Sunday February 18, 2007, the best in Ontario will “battle it out” at the National Cadet & National Junior Female Championships & FTS this weekend in St. Catharines.  This tournament is one of many highlights of our 2006/2007 Championship Series . Contenders from all over Canada are travelling into “The Garden City” to compete for top spots. There are many key match-ups to look out for this weekend in St. Catharines.

The 57kg weight class in the Male Cadet division features 11 boxers which will make for very intriguing bouts.  Jesse Wilcox (Steeltown Boxing Club, Hamilton) and Kyle Wright (Motor City Boxing Club, Oshawa) will be representing Ontario against other contenders for Gold in this category.  Stamina and determination are a few key elements needed for this champion prevail. 

Also happening is the Final Team Selection (FTS) for Senior Males and Females. This is the final round for these boxers, for this weekend will determine those who will make up the Male and Female Canadian National Teams. Key male match ups will see Jonathan Bochner (Atlas Boxing Club, Toronto), Adam Trupish (Windsor Amateur Boxing Club, Windsor) and Richard Reittie (Sully’s Boxing Club, Toronto) all fight for their rightful spot on the national team in thier respective weight divisions. The females equally have the same journey ahead of them as they too fight for the podium. Mandy Bujold ( Waterloo Regional Academy, Kitchener), Jacqui Park (Steeltown Boxing Club, Hamilton) and Erin Krekoski (BEL Boxing Club, Bridgenorth) are just a few Ontario females vying for spots. 

Gold medal winners from the Senior National Championships held in St. Hyacinthe, Quebec in January had already determined a few guaranteed spots on the Male and Female Canadian National Team. They are:

Ibrahim Kamal – Cabbagetown Boxing Club, Toronto
Glenn Hunter – St. Catharines Boxing Club, St. Catharines

Female

Katie Dunn – Border City Boxing Club, Windsor
Mary Spencer – Windsor Amateur Boxing Club, Windsor

The Male National Team goes on to compete for a chance to advance into the Pan Am Games taking place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from July 13 – 29, 2007.

The Female National Team will go on to represent Canada in yet to be determined international events.
