The 5th Annual Summerhays Tournament in Brantford on October 1-3, was a major success. The weekend hosted over 40 bouts and displayed many talented boxers and up-and-comers. Many of the novice athletes showed exemplary skills and poise which is a testament to the great training done by our coaches. What a great way to start off the new boxing season!
Congratulations to all boxers, coaches, officials, volunteers, and supporters on a very fine tournament. Thank you also to the Holiday Inn and the Brantford Youth Boxing Club staff.

Best Male Boxer – Harvey Jolly – Windsor Amateur Boxing Club
Harvey now has 6 bouts under his belt and cruised to victory at Summerhays. The 91kg Senior has outstanding skills for his age and throws booming punches with blinding speed.
Best Female Boxer – Leah Evans – Big Tyme Fitness
October’s Athlete of the Month, Leah Jackie Lachapelle of TAZ Boxing in the finals in impressive fashion. Leah’s development over the last year has her looking like a true contender.
Best Male Bout – Jeff Grills – Boxing Factory vs. Mitch Cleary – Triumph Boxing Club
On Saturday afternoon Jeff and Mitch provided the fans with a thriller. Leaving everything in the ring the 66kg Cadet C’s battled to an amazing 39-38 score, with Cleary winning the outcome.
Best Female Bout – Linda Ludwig – Hamilton Boxing Club vs. Lynette McLaughlin – Ajax Boxing
This 63kg Senior Female bout was another beauty, with both athletes trading punches and slick defensive moves. Linda won the decider 32-28 in a dramatic finish.
