Ontario amateur boxers have been boxing abroad the past 10 days, with Senior Females traveling to Italy for the Tourneo Italia and Cadet Males heading south to compete in the Junior Olympics in Texas.

The 4th International Women’s Tourneo Italia concluded last week in Cascia, Italy.  The Canadian Team (with two representatives from Ontario) brought home 1 Gold, 3 Silver, and 2 Bronze. Here are the medal placings:

46kg – Nancy Fortin (Quebec) – GOLD
48kg – Jacqui Park, (Cabbagetown Boxing, Toronto, Ontario) – BRONZE (15:31 loss to Tosti of ITA)
63kg – Katie Dunn, (Border City Boxing, Windsor, Ontario) – SILVER (19:25 loss to Busygina of RUS)
66kg – Daniel Quee (BC) – BRONZE
70kg – Arianne Fortin (Quebec) – SILVER
86kg – Jacynthe Maloney (Quebec) – BRONZE

Ontario’s females now prepare for The Women’s World Championships which run from September 18-26 in Russia.

Five of Ontario’s best male prospects competed in the USA Cadet International Boxing Championships this weekend.  The event, also known as the “Junior Olympics,” was held in Brownsville, Texas and featured the top 15-16 year olds from Canada, USA, Mexico, and Puerto Rico.  Colin Fish of Motor City Boxing in Oshawa was the sole Canadian to win Gold at this event, defeating the USA’s National Light Heavyweight Champion.  Here are the medal results for Ontario boxers at the 2005 Junior Olympics:

80kg – Colin Fish, Motor City Boxing Club (Oshawa) – GOLD
63kg – Jerome Gabriel, Motor City Boxing Club (Oshawa) – BRONZE (lost to Gold champ in semis)
60kg – Zishan Khan, Champion Boxing Club (Brampton) – BRONZE (lost to Gold champ in semis)
50kg – Adrian Sinanan, Bramalea Boxing Club (Brampton) – SILVER
48kg – Jermaine Badchkam, McGrory’s Boxing Club (Hamilton) – BRONZE
