Casinos: A Hotspot for Boxing Matches

Boxing is one of the most popular spectator sports worldwide. According to an annual survey reported by the Sports Business Journal, 5.3 percent of the US population overall is an avid fan of professional boxing. Aside from cable companies’ revenues on boxing pay-per-views, casinos are also capitalizing on this sport’s popularity by hosting major boxing events. Here are some of the best places to catch a boxing match:

MGM Grand Las Vegas

MGM Grand Las Vegas, one of the largest casinos on the Las Vegas strip in Paradise, Nevada, features the MGM Grand Garden Arena, which has a seating capacity of 16,800 people. Aside from hosting extravagant events such as the Billboard Music Awards, Academy of Country Music Awards (ACMA), and the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), the arena has also become famous for numerous professional boxing superfights, including that of Mike Tyson, Oscar De La Hoya, Floyd Mayweather Jr., and Manny Pacquiao.

On July 12, the Grand Garden Arena will feature two of the best junior middleweights in the world battling for 154-pound supremacy. Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez will go head to head against WBA Junior Middleweight World Champion Erislandy “The American Dream” Lara in a challenging 12-round match. For ticket information, visit the MGM Grand website.

Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Las Vegas

This famous hotel and casino brand has been hosting amateur and professional boxing matches since 1999. The Joint inside the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino is a smaller venue as compared to MGM Grand but still a comfortable location to watch a boxing match. No need to squint to see the fighters in the ring plus there are numerous big screen monitors throughout the venue.

Top Rank boxing promoter Bob Arum has been endorsing boxing matches at The Joint since 2006. These fights have a history of selling out and being the hottest ticket in town. Top Rank fighter and fan favourite Vanes Martirosyan, the Armenian Nightmare is frequently on the fight card at The Joint.

Gaming companies also recognize the popularity of boxing as they also feature the sport on their gaming platforms. Y8.com offers various boxing games such as Blood sweat and Leather, Rocky-Legends, and Strongest Boxing Shots. Online casino gaming firms are also following the footsteps of their land-based competitors by featuring boxing themed online slots. CryptoLogic Ltd, developer for Inter Casino, features a boxing themed fruit machine called Fruit Fight, and boxing-themed names like Saved by the Bell and Power Punch. To keep up with the sports theme, the feature boards in Fruit Fight are even referred to as Super Knock Out and Super Heavyweight.

Las Vegas is still the boxing capital of the world thanks to its major casinos, the hotspots for boxing matches.
