Canada Goes 3 for 3

 

Mandy Bujold of the Waterloo Regional Boxing Academy defeated Christina Cruz of the United States to capture the Gold medal in the 51 kg category at a Pan Am Qualifier in Quito, Ecuador by a score of 14-10 on points.

 

Bujold was originally scheduled to box Jemyma Betrian from Aruba however she was disqualified when it was discovered she was infact a professional Muay Thai fighter, a violation of the amateur boxing rules. Cruz was brought back into the tournament after losing to Betrian. By winning the silver medal Cruz also adbvances to the Pan Am Games.

 

Two other Canadians also won Gold, Sandra Bizier of Quebec City won in the 60 kgs category and Brody Blair of Halifax won Gold. Blair was the only male boxer to qualify for the Pan Am Games.

 

Canada Also took home 2nd Best Team Award! 

 

Mandy will be returning home on Sunday.
