This past weekend was action packed as amateur boxers from all over Ontario left standing room only inside the Optimist Club, venue of the 2006 Ray McGibbon Gloves Tournament. The line up this weekend produced many action packed and exciting bouts.This tournament marked the end of the 2006 season.The 2007 season will commence this September.

In addition to many Gold, Silver and Bronze medalists, some key awards were handed out:

Best Junior Female Boxer went to Melissa Landry of Champion Boxing Club in Brampton. To capture her Gold title Melissa stopped her opponent with a ruling of RSC (Referee Stop Contest). Melissa competed in the 52kg division.

Best Senior  Female Boxer was Amy Ramirez of Nappers Boxing Club in Welland. Amy took home the Gold medal in her 66kg division class. Amy Ramirez started off slow but bounced back in an amazing third round of determination to outscore her opponent in an 22 -18 score decision.

Best Cadet Boxer went to William Knetchel of Windsor Amateur Boxing Club in Windsor. William definitely showed promise as a developing boxer. William out boxed his opponent and went on to capture the gold this weekend.

Best Junior Boxer was Saul Maradiaga of McGrory’s Boxing Club in Hamilton. Saul had a heart of gold which essentially was what he came home with.

Best Senior Boxer was Dimitry Chalenko of European Boxing Club in Toronto.

Best Bout: Josiah Evans – Chris Johnson’s Fighting Alliance (Mississauga) vs Saul Maradiaga – McGrory’s Boxing Club (Hamilton)
Best Team: Big Tyme Boxing Club
