Congratulations to all the Ontario competitors who traveled to Brownsville, Texas to participate in the 2005 USA Cadet International Boxing Championships.  Five of Ontario’s males were on the National Team to represent Canada in a very strong tournament.  Colin Fish, of Motor City Boxing Club in Oshawa, was Canada’s sole Gold Medalist.  He defeated Stacy Harrington of Michigan, USA in the first round by RSC-1.  Harrington was 60-5 with 38 KO’s prior to facing The “Big Fish”, who has less than 25 bouts under his belt.  Fish is pictured above receiving his medal from Andrew Maynard, the 1988 Olympic Gold Light-Heavyweight Champion.

Here are the medal results for Ontario boxers at the 2005 Junior Olympics:

80kg – Colin Fish, Motor City Boxing Club – GOLD
63kg – Jerome Gabriel, Motor City Boxing Club – BRONZE (lost to Gold champ in semis)
60kg – Zishan Khan, Champion Boxing Club – BRONZE (lost to Gold champ in semis)

Way to go guys!  Congrats to all boxers and coaches who participated.

The next “American trek” is this weekend, as the Big Tyme Boxing Club (14 boxers) and St. Catharines Boxing Club (3 boxers) travel to Virginia to participate in two club shows – Friday in Arlington, VA and Saturday in Virginia Beach!  Good luck to all boxers.  Our friends in the USA have invited all clubs to head south this August, at the Ringside World Championships in Kansas City.  The tournament runs from August 2-6, and details can be found at https://worldchampionships.ringside.com/
