Boxing Ontario to Hold 2015 Elite Canadian Championships

MISSISSAUGA – Canada’s elite amateur boxers will assemble in Mississauga to compete in the 2015 Elite Canadian Championships (#2015CDNElite) at the Delta Meadowvale Hotel and Conference Centre, hosted by Boxing Ontario. One hundred elite boxers have registered, 55 male and 45 female boxers, ages nineteen and older. They will step into the boxing ring and go toe to toe in pursuit of the Canadian championship title.

This championship is a landmark for their careers to represent Canada by competing at the Pan American Games during the summer of 2015.

Without a doubt, the competition will not only highlight the best Olympic-style boxing of the maple leaf nation, but it will give the boxers an additional incentive to gain the precious gold and fill the first step to compete in TORONTO 2015 (TO2015).

The competition draw is scheduled for Tuesday, October 28 at noon and the first session of preliminary bouts will begin at 6 p.m.

Current Pan American female champions 75kg Mary Spencer and 51kg Mandy Bujold will be competing for the national title. Brody Blair, 75kg Pan American bronze medalist will be competing as well.

Commonwealth Champion, 91kg Samir El Mais will be in Mississauga after a dominant and powerful performance in Glasgow, 2014. El Mais took time off and went quietly to rest and prepare for the Canadian Elite Championships in his hometown.

“I’m going to win to represent Canada in any major event coming up, including the Pan Am Games with the main goal set for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games,” said El Mais.

The ten point scoring system will be used; as well male boxers compete without headgear.

Tickets are on sale and can be purchased from Boxing Ontario. Limited quantities will be available to purchase at the Delta Meadowvale Hotel and Conference Centre from October 28th to November 1st, 2014.

The competition will be webcasted on gofightlive.tv. Viewers can watch the preliminary, quarter-final, semi-final, and final bouts for a $9.99 fee per session and $75 in (US Dollars) for the whole tournament.
