The 2008 Commonwealth Youth Games are right around the corner with the amateur boxing team undertaking final preparations to take on the world at Shri Shiv Chhatrapati Sports City in Pune, India. Competition at the games begins this Sunday, October 12 with the Canadian amateur boxing team making its debut October 13.

Boxing has been a part of the Commonwealth Games since its inception back in 1930 in Hamilton, Ontario.  Canada has 79 medals in boxing at the Commonwealth Games with the most coming in the men’s middleweight (75kg) division as boxers have won 12 medals.  The men’s middleweight division has produced the most gold medals (6).
